Provide Text Equivalents for Media in Elementor
- Open your WordPress dashboard, navigate to the page you want to edit, and click Edit with Elementor.
- Select the media element (video, audio, animation, or embed). The Elementor panel on the left will load its settings.
- Identify the media type:
- Video Widget (YouTube, Vimeo, self-hosted)
- Image Carousel / Media Carousel with video slides
- HTML or Shortcode embeds (animations, custom players)
- Background Videos applied to Sections or Columns
- Add a text equivalent near the media:
- Click the + icon below or above the media.
- Add a Text Editor widget.
- Write a short description of what the media shows or explains (e.g., “This video demonstrates our onboarding process.”).
- If the media has spoken content or meaningful audio:
- Add a Text Editor widget below the media.
- Insert a complete transcript including dialogue and key sound cues.
- Add a clear heading such as Transcript above the text.
- For YouTube/Vimeo videos:
- Open the video in its platform.
- Enable captions or upload your own.
- Return to Elementor → Video widget → confirm captions load automatically on playback.
- For self-hosted HTML5 videos:
- Select the Video widget → Content.
- Ensure the file includes captions if available (VTT format) or provide a transcript below.
- For media added via an HTML widget:
- Select the HTML widget → review the embed code.
- Confirm it includes accessible controls if interactive.
- Place a nearby text description or transcript if the embed cannot support native alt/caption features.
- For Background Videos:
- Select the Section or Column → Style → Background → Video.
- Add visible explanatory text in the same section since background videos cannot have captions or alt text.
- Repeat steps 4–10 for every media element on the page to ensure each has an equivalent text description or transcript.
- Click Update to save your changes.
- Preview the page and verify that each media item includes a clear, accessible text equivalent placed close enough for users to associate it with the media.
