Run a Quick Automated Scan in Squarespace

  1. Publish your site by clicking Save and then Publish so the latest version is live.
  2. Open the live page in your browser and copy its full URL.
  3. Open an automated accessibility tool such as WAVE, Lighthouse (via Chrome DevTools), or the WAVE browser extension in a new tab.
  4. If using the WAVE web tool:
    • Paste your page URL into the analysis field.
    • Click Analyze to generate your accessibility report.
  5. If using a browser extension (WAVE or Axe):
    • Navigate to your live Squarespace page.
    • Click the extension icon to run the scan instantly.
  6. Review the results carefully:
    • Look for errors such as missing alt text, low-contrast text, incorrect heading order, or unlabeled controls.
    • Open the tool’s details panel to see exactly which elements triggered each issue.
  7. Return to the Squarespace Editor and fix the flagged issues:
    • Add or correct alt text on images,
    • Strengthen color contrast in Design → Site Styles,
    • Adjust headings using the text editor → Format menu,
    • Add labels to icons or controls via block settings.
  8. Publish the site again and re-run the scan to confirm the errors are resolved.
  9. Repeat scanning on other key pages (homepage, services, contact, product pages) to ensure consistent accessibility coverage across your site.
  10. Document any items labeled “manual checks” and review them separately, since automated tools can only detect part of the full accessibility picture.
