Mark Decorative Images in GoDaddy Website Builder
- Open your site in GoDaddy Website Builder and navigate to the page containing the decorative images.
- Select the first decorative image (such as accents, shapes, patterns, or styling graphics). The right-hand settings panel will open automatically.
- Click Image Settings or Settings depending on the block type.
- Locate the Alt Text field.
- Clear the Alt Text field completely so it is blank.
- Leaving alt text empty tells assistive technologies to ignore the image.
- Verify the image is truly decorative:
- Keep the field blank if the image adds visual style only,
- If the image conveys information or acts as a link, add meaningful alt text instead.
- If the image is in a Gallery:
- Open the gallery → select each decorative image.
- Remove any existing alt text by clearing the field.
- If the image appears in a Product gallery for the GoDaddy store:
- Only mark decorative images blank—product photos typically require descriptive alt text.
- For background images applied to sections:
- Select the section → open Background.
- Background images cannot have alt text; they are automatically considered decorative unless you add meaningful text in the section.
- If using a custom code block:
- Edit the HTML → find
<img>tags. - Set decorative images to
alt="".
- Edit the HTML → find
- Repeat for all decorative images across the page so only meaningful images contain alt text.
- Switch to Mobile view and check any mobile-specific decorative elements—clear their alt text as well.
- Use Preview to verify that decorative images have empty alt fields and meaningful images remain properly described.
- Publish your changes to update the live site.
