Provide Text Equivalents for Media in GoDaddy Website Builder

  1. Open your site in GoDaddy Website Builder and navigate to the page containing the media (video, audio, animation, or embed).
  2. Select the media block. The right-hand settings panel will open automatically.
  3. Identify the media type:
    • Uploaded Video
    • YouTube/Vimeo Embed
    • Audio Block
    • Third-party widgets in an Embed/HTML block
  4. Add a text description near the media:
    • Click the + button above or below the media.
    • Insert a Text block.
    • Write a short description of what the media shows or conveys (e.g., “This video explains our installation process.”).
  5. If the media includes dialogue or meaningful audio:
    • Add another Text block below the media.
    • Include a complete transcript with all spoken content and important sounds.
    • Add a heading such as Transcript for clarity.
  6. For YouTube or Vimeo videos:
    • Open the video on the hosting platform in a separate tab.
    • Enable or upload captions.
    • GoDaddy will display them automatically during playback.
  7. For Uploaded Videos in GoDaddy:
    • Select the video block → open Settings.
    • If captions cannot be uploaded directly, ensure you provide a transcript in the surrounding text.
  8. For Audio Blocks:
    • Select the audio block → open Settings.
    • Add a nearby transcript or lyrics in a text block.
  9. For third-party embeds (animations, interactive widgets):
    • Select the embed → open Settings.
    • Review any accessible options built into the embed.
    • Add a text description or transcript since embedded widgets cannot receive alt text.
  10. For background videos in sections:
    • Select the section → open Background.
    • Because background videos cannot have captions, add a short written description within the section.
  11. Repeat steps 4–11 for all media elements on the page.
  12. Switch to Mobile view and confirm descriptions and transcripts appear clearly next to their corresponding media.
  13. Use Preview to verify that each media item includes an accessible text equivalent placed close to it.
  14. Publish your changes to apply media accessibility sitewide.
