Add Alt Text to Important Images in Wix
- Open your site in the Wix Editor and navigate to the page containing the images you want to update.
- Select an important image on the canvas. A blue bounding box will appear around it.
- In the right-hand panel, click Settings.
- Scroll to the Accessibility section and locate the Alt Text field.
- Enter a clear, concise description that communicates the image’s purpose (e.g., “Team member smiling at desk” or “Product photo of blue ceramic mug”).
- If the image is a button or link, describe the action instead of the appearance (e.g., “Go to Services page”).
- Repeat steps 2–6 for all important images across the page, including hero images, product photos, infographics, and icons conveying meaning.
- For gallery items:
- Select the gallery → click Manage Media.
- Click each image in the list and add alt text in the Alt Text field.
- For background images used in strips or boxes:
- Since background images cannot receive alt text, ensure the same information appears as text in the section if the image is meaningful.
- Switch to Mobile view and confirm mobile-only images also have accurate alt text using the same steps.
- Click Preview to verify that important images are visible and that decorative visuals were not mistakenly given alt text.
- Publish your site and use your browser’s accessibility inspector to confirm that all meaningful images include the correct alt attributes on the live page.
