Provide Text Equivalents for Media in Wix
- Open your site in the Wix Editor and navigate to the page containing the media element (video, audio, animation, or embedded widget).
- Select the media element on the canvas. A blue bounding box will appear around it.
- In the right-hand panel, click Settings to confirm how the media is added (Video element, Audio player, or Embed).
- Below or near the media element, click Add (+) → Text and insert a Text or Paragraph element to hold the text equivalent.
- Type a concise description summarizing what the media communicates (e.g., “This video explains our product’s onboarding process.”).
- If the media includes spoken words or meaningful audio cues, paste or type a full transcript into a Text or Rich Text element. If long, place it beneath the media with a clear heading such as “Transcript”.
- If your media is hosted on YouTube or Vimeo:
- Select the video → Settings.
- Ensure captions are enabled on the hosting platform. Wix will display the captions if they exist on YouTube/Vimeo.
- For Background Video strips:
- Select the strip → Change Background → Video.
- Add a nearby text description in the same section since background videos cannot contain alt text or captions.
- Repeat steps 4–8 for every media element on the page, ensuring each has a text equivalent placed close enough for users to associate it with the media.
- Switch to Mobile view and confirm that the transcript or description appears correctly and remains readable beneath or near the media.
- Click Preview to ensure the text equivalent displays properly and remains visually connected to the media content.
- Publish your site and verify on the live page that descriptions and transcripts are visible, readable, and fully accessible.
