Enable Keyboard Access in Wix
- Open your site in the Wix Editor and navigate to the page containing interactive elements (buttons, menus, form fields, sliders, custom boxes, or icon triggers).
- Select the first interactive element on the canvas.
- In the right-hand panel, click Settings, then scroll to Accessibility.
- Ensure Keyboard Accessibility is enabled (Wix enables this automatically for most elements).
- If the element shows a toggle for keyboard focus, make sure it is turned On.
- For elements that act like buttons but are not native (e.g., icons, decorative boxes with click actions):
- Select the element → Settings → Accessibility.
- Enable Make this element keyboard accessible if available.
- Add a descriptive Label so the element can be accessed and identified via keyboard.
- Check your navigation menu:
- Select the Menu → Manage Menu.
- Ensure all menu items are standard Wix menu links (these are automatically keyboard accessible).
- If using a custom mobile menu, select the hamburger icon → Accessibility → add a label like “Open Menu”.
- Review sliders, galleries, and repeaters:
- Select arrows or navigation dots → Settings → Accessibility.
- Ensure each control is labeled (e.g., “Next Slide”, “Previous Slide”).
- If an element cannot be keyboard-focused, replace it with a standard Wix button or menu element.
- Switch to Mobile view and repeat steps 2–7 to confirm all interactive elements still support keyboard access in the mobile layout.
- Preview the site and use the Tab key to move forward through the page. Confirm each interactive element receives a visible focus indicator.
- Use Shift + Tab to verify reverse navigation works and no element traps focus.
- Publish your site, open the live version, and repeat the keyboard test to ensure keyboard accessibility works consistently outside the editor.
